ABOUT POPRULE
PopRule is a social news community for politics. On PopRule, all politics is social™. When you join the community, you can submit your favorite news from any online source. Pop (vote for) and comment on stories to voice your opinion. Help democratize politics by sharing and discussing stories that are relevant to you, your group or your community.
All Politics is Social™
The PopRule tagline is "all politics is social." This is a riff on the Tip O'Neill truism that "all politics is local." Taken together, these two statements sum up the PopRule ethos, design, and mission.
Categories
In addition to broad categories for national news, international news, political opinion, and humor, PopRule features a category for every state. Each of these categories is a forum for state and local political news, where those issues and opinions can generate the attention they deserve. Each category has a queue for “Trending” stories and a main page for those made “Popular” through the votes and comments of the community.
Popularity
PopRule has two stages of popularity. Stories are first made popular in their respective category. If these stories continue to attract attention through votes and comments, they can be "Popped" to the PopRule front page. These are the best of the best. When a state or local story has cross-state or national relevance, it will be more likely to get Popped to the front page.
Groups
PopRule’s key community feature is called Groups. PopRule Groups can be formed around issues, locations, ideologies, candidates, politicians, companies, and organizations—most any topic that unites us politically. When submitting stories to PopRule, members can send them to the group(s) to which they belong. Sending a story to a group enters it in the group feed, thereby submitting it to the group for votes and comments. Members can also subscribe to the group feed via email or RSS.
