Indeed, the point of the confereneece (I’ll add in an extra ‘e’ for evil) was to revive racism in the Republican Party in hopes of winning over “working class white Democrats” and “building the new majority.” (Of course, there’s already more than enough racism both in the GOP and in Buchanan’s right-wing nativist circles to feed off and build upon).

By his actions, or lack of actions, Governor Sanford has broken his covenant with the people of South Carolina. They should seriously consider whether he should remain in office as their elected leader.

Another day, another Rush Limbaugh controversy with racial overtones. On his radio show Monday, Limbaugh was firing his usual litany of complaints against President Barack Obama, likening his brand of liberalism to "totalitarianism," and generally bemoaning what he sees as a weak-kneed foreign policy. Then the entertainer did what he so often does, he infused race into the equation.

The grass roots element in the United States has been very successful. The Democrats, starting with Howard Dean and culminating with Barack Obama, learned how to harness the Internet to engage ordinary Americans in the grass roots effort. But those efforts, and the successes that they generated, are being threatened because of one single fact.

Recipient banks across the country have emphasized that the program is not a bailout for banks. But some of the banks receiving money under the program don’t meet a commonsense definition of “healthy.” Citigroup and Bank of America, for instance, were among the first banks to receive money, only to need further injections of money.

Ed Schulz could have taken a cue from another strong Democratic partisan with a genuine southern accent, James Carville, who expressed compassion for Governor Sanford as a man in pain over his human frailty. But Ed Schultz was on a ‘no mercy’ mission.
